LSU Eunice names 400 students to Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List

Louisiana State University Eunice announced that 400 students were named to the Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List. Students must have full-time status, completing more than 12 credit hours during the Spring 2024 semester, and maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average.

La 95 (Saint Julien Road) in Evangeline Parish closed due to high water

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that La. 95 (Saint Julien Road) will be closed, effective immediately, due to high water levels on the roadway. The location of the road closure is approximately 1.25 miles south of La. 29 (Vines Street).

Memorial Day ceremony set May 27 The VFW Post 8971, American Legion Post 129 and DAV Chapter 19, will have a Memorial Day ceremony at 6 p.m. May 27 at the Rotary Foundation corner at South 2nd and Park Avenue. There will be a guest speaker. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Eunice man wanted on murder charges arrested in Shreveport

On Thursday, The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified that Daylon Lewis Rainville and another occupant that was inside the vehicle were stopped in the early morning hours in Shreveport for a traffic stop.

UL Lafayette conferred 1,608 degrees during Spring 2024 Commencement

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette celebrated its Spring 2024 graduates during Commencement ceremonies May 10 and 11. A total of 1,608 degrees were conferred. Individual Commencement ceremonies for UL Lafayette’s eight academic colleges were held at the Cajundome and Convention Center.

The following people obtained marriage licenses from the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Office, Opelousas. Wednesday, May 8 Gavin Craig Miller of Basile and Olivia Rhea Marie Storey of Basile. Thursday, May 9 Jordan Wayne Leblanc of Opelousas and Savannah Jade Ledoux of Opelousas.

Basile editor chronicles late parents

Darrel LeJeune, editor of The Basile Weekly and a retired Basile High educator, released a book last week about the life story of his late parents. The memoir is titled “A Tapestry of Rural Life in Southwest Louisiana: The Story of Stooge and The Ghep.
