Former mayor brings fireworks to city meeting

Former Eunice Mayor Kenneth Peart showed up at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting with fireworks shell in hand and an announcement. “I seem to remember this place,” he said. Peart served as mayor from 1996 to 2002.

Superintendent evaluated as ‘outstanding’

After 13 months as St. Landry Parish school superintendent, Milton Batiste was evaluated by the School Board as “outstanding.” The evaluation with a score of 3.6 out of 4 possible points was announced at Thursday’s Board meeting after about an hour in closed session with Batiste.

Beginning June 10 at 6 a.m. until June 19 at 6 p.m., La. 182, from the Lafayette Parish Line to La. 754 in St. Landry Parish, will be closed to vehicular traffic, weather permitting. The closure is necessary to install new drainage structures across the roadway.
