Tri-Parish workforce grows by 496

The Tri-Parish workforce grew by 496 people in March compared to a year ago, but unemployment rates were up, according to data released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The workforce for St. Landry, Acadia and Evangeline parishes in March totaled 68,220, up 0.

CDA Court 208 leads Rosary in May The Catholic Daughters of Americas Court 208 will lead a Rosary everyday at 5:30 p.m. in May in front of the Blessed Mother statute. On Sundays in May the time will be 5:15 p.m. The public is invited.

Presentation is on Opelousas during the Civil War

Kallie Johnston will give a presentation on Opelousas during the Civil War from 1 to 3 p.m. May 18 at the Opelousas Museum, 315 N Main St., Opelousas, Johnston’s talk will include and sketches of area soldiers to provide a glimpse at life in St. Landry pre- and post-Civil War.

Parish receives state assistance for debris pickup

In lieu of the state not qualifying to receive FEMA assistance, Gov. Jeff Landry is helping parishes that were hardest hit by the storm on April 10. During the storm, St. Landry was hit by two EF-1 tornadoes in Port Barre and Washington. St.

Eunice Rotary Club honors an office ‘angel’

Raven DeVillier Lavergne is the winner of the Eunice Rotary Club’s Administrative Professional of the Year Award for 2024. The Rotary Club sponsored the Administrative Professional’s Day Luncheon Wednesday which was held at noon in the LSU Eunice Mumphrey Center.

Brand new District Judge Laura Rougeau Garcille cited her faith, family and friends as pillars of support in her life leading to her judgeship. A 30-minute swearing-in ceremony for Garcille was held Wednesday at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse in Opelousas.
