90 mph winds, tornadoes battered St. Landry Parish

A fast moving squall line raced across St. Landry Parish with straight-line winds up to 90 mph and two confirmed tornadoes downing dozens of trees and closing about 50 roads on Wednesday. The storm knocked out power to about 32,000 customers across the parish beginning about 7 a.m.

Belly Buddies Color Fun Run set April 13 There will be a Belly Buddies Color Fun Run in downtown Eunice from 10 a.m. until noon on April 13. All proceeds will go to Belly Buddies, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide food to Eunice’s most vulnerable students.

Acadian Home Builders Association presents the 62nd Parade of Homes

The Acadian Home Builders Association (AHBA) will present the 62nd Annual Parade of Homes, which showcases the latest in home design. The Parade of Homes is back for two weekends of open houses, Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14 and April 20-21, from 1 to 6 p.m.

Parish sales tax collections continue to increase

Sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish continue to show a year over year increase, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division on Monday. Total parish collections through March were $24,898,150, up $2,281,959 or 10.1% over the same period in 2023.

City council races through its agenda in 18 minutes

The Eunice mayor and Board of Aldermen went through its agenda in 18 minutes on Tuesday. In Mayor Scott Fontenot’s business, Alderman Chad Andrepont announced the Belly Buddies Color Fun Run from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday starting at City Hall.

St. Landry Parish Courthouse closed

The St. Landry Parish Courthouse will be closed today for severe weather. Parish Government employees will report to work for 10am. The courthouse will reopen tomorrow. For more information contact Parish Government at 337-948-3688.
