Student clear bag guidelines approved

All St. Landry Parish public school students must have a clear or mesh backpack in a policy to be approved by the School Board at its May 2 meeting. The Board’s Executive Committee approved the bag guidelines along with two other policies at a meeting Monday in Opelousas.

School employees to get $1K stipend

All active full-time St. Landry Parish School Board employees as of May 31 are to receive a $1,000 stipend in June. The School Board’s Finance Committee recommended the payment be approved by the full Board at its May 2 meeting.

Keep Eunice Beautiful bags a cleanup success

Some 248 volunteers turned Saturday’s Keep Eunice Beautiful Love the Boot cleanup day a success. “I think it was probably one of our better ones to be so widespread,” said Donna Baltakis, Keep Eunice Beautiful director. The cleanup started at about 9 a.m. and for some continued to 4 p.m.

LSUE nursing receives several Nightingale award nominations

The LSU Eunice Nursing Department has been nominated for several awards at the upcoming Nightingale Awards, the Louisiana Nurses Foundation recently announced. The awards will be presented at the 2024 Nightingale Gala on Aug. 31 at L’auberge Casino Hotel in Baton Rouge.

Tourism mixed with pork stew provided a blend of conversation on Thursday at the St. Landry Parish Tourism Commission’s monthly networking meeting held at LSUE.
