St. Landry Parish Sheriff Concealed Carry permit class The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a one day concealed carry permit training class on June 29 at 211 W. Park Ave. in Eunice. The class begins at 7:30 a.m.

Coutee’s Grocery owner dies

Joseph “Joe” Coutee Jr., owner and manager of Coutee’s Grocery, died June 13 at 81 years old. Coutee’s Grocery is located next door to Central Middle School on South Martin Luther King Drive. The grocery store opened in 1947 where Joe’s father owned and ran it.

Superintendent talks goals, school districts, 4-day week, consolidation with Rotary Club

Just two weeks into her tenure as superintendent of Acadia Parish public schools, Carol Dailey-Tall talked about her goals for the future and an assortment of school-related topics with the Rotary Club of Crowley on Tuesday, (June 11).

Rayne man arrested in deputy-involved shooting

An arrest has been made in connection with the deputy-involved shooting that happened last week in Crowley. On June 3, detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested by the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate a deputy-involved shooting in Crowley.

Hurricane season brings parish leaders together

The National Weather Service presented their outlook for the 2024 hurricane season to local officials from throughout the parish at The Delta Grand in Opelousas on Tuesday. Doug Cramer, warning coordination meteorologist, says it’ll be an above normal year for tropical activity.

Eunice city offices closed Wednesday Gov. Jeff Landry has declared Wednesday to be observed as the Juneteenth holiday. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot has stated the City of Eunice shall follow the State of Louisiana and observe the Juneteenth Holiday on Wednesday.

Eliminate Red Fire Ants without using chemicals

There are about 200 different species of fire ants, one is considered invasive and aggressive. Red Fire Ants were accidentally brought to the USA by a ship from South America in the 1920s. Today they often are transported in baled hay or during floods as whole colonies can float during flooding.
