St. Landry Parish marriage licenses

The following people obtained marriage licenses from the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Office, Opelousas. Wednesday, June 26 Justin Shawn Hanratty and Dana Merle Dupuis both of Hot Springs Arkansas. Terrance Keith Skinner of Ville Platte and Crystal Danielle Freeman of Eunice.

Clerk’s building remains disputed

Blanchard challenges commissioner’s residency

St. Landry Parish Council member Ernest Blanchard challenged the residency of St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Commission member Jodie Powell at a committee meeting Wednesday in Opelousas. Blanchard, of Eunice, said Powell is using a 1321 Oak St.

Evangeline Parish couple win Excellence in Agriculture Award

A couple from Evangeline Parish is this year’s recipient of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture award. Clint and Raquella Manuel took the top prize at the 102nd annual convention held in New Orleans.

Courthouse roofing job sparks suit

The St. Landry Parish Government has filed a lawsuit for compensation for water damage at the Courthouse it says happened due to a roofing project. The suit, filed June 18, names insurance companies Navigators Specialty Insurance Company and Great American Insurance Company.

Tri-Parish workforce dips by 535 in May

The Tri-Parish workforce took a rare dip in May by posting a loss of 535 jobs compared to the May 2023 count, according to date released Tuesday by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The workforce in May totaled 67,710, down 0.8% for the May 2023 total of 68,245.
The City of Eunice Fourth of July fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m. Thursday and last about 30 minutes at the Recreation Complex on Sittig Street. Gates open at 6 p.m. Parking is available on the gravel and grass areas. Parking is not allowed on Sittig Street or the north side of the complex. Fireworks, open fires and glass bottles are not permitted in the parking areas.
