City office hours changed Due to staffing shortage, the City of Eunice Gas/Sewer Billing Office and Permits/License Office will close for lunch from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Offices will continue to open at 8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.

Supporting pollinator populations with native plants

Acadia Parish Sheriff Gibson takes oath for third term

Acadia Parish Sheriff KP Gibson took the oath of office for his third term in office, which will begin on July 1, 2024. Sheriff Gibson also received the Oath of Office for the office of President of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association, which will also begin on July 1st.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff takes oath for fifth term

On Thursday, at the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Safety Complex, with approximately 30 people in attendance, Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz was sworn in for a fifth term as the Sheriff of St. Landry Parish, which will begin on July 1, 2024.
State Fire Marshal’s Office encourages everyone to be mindful of the weather conditions in your area when considering whether to pop your own fireworks. Make sure you are aware of any burn bans established and take into account the dryness of your surroundings when choosing a safe location for popping fireworks.

BATON ROUGE–With fireworks tents and stands popping up across the state this week, the State Fire Marshal’s Office wants to encourage all Louisiana residents to not only be safe when using fireworks, but knowledgeable when buying them.

Prairie Acadian Cultural Center announces roof project starting

The National Park Service announced the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center roof project started June 17 and is expected to take about 150 days “We are elated to be in the final stages of completing this project,” said Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Superintendent Charles Hunt.

School Board confronts changing enrollment

By Harlan Kirgan Editor There is occasional talk about consolidation at St. Landry Parish School Board meetings, but no plans have been made public. “We are starting to talk about consolidating some schools,” said Board member Kyle Boss.

Sewer veto sustained

Gulf ‘dead zone’ grows

By Eva Tesfaye WWNO-FM via Louisiana Illumiator NEW ORLEANS–The “dead zone” forms in the Gulf of Mexico every summer. It’s caused by nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus, largely from farm fertilizer and municipal runoff, which are carried down the Mississippi River and into the gulf.
