Play opens Thursday at Eunice Players’ Theater

After weeks of rehearsal, the cast and crew of “Charlotte’s Web” at Eunice Players’ Theatre are ready for their opening night performance at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Twain and the Fourth of July

For some reason, when I begin to think about the Fourth of July, Mark Twain pops up in my head. He and Independence Day are for some reason as inseparably linked in my mind as are July 4th and hot dogs, ice cream, and mom’s apple pie. I think it’s because Twain was truly an American.

Parish Fourth of July celebration ends today

The St. Landry BBQ Festival opens for its final day today at 10 a.m. at the Yambilee grounds, 1939 W. Landry St., Opelousas. Activities are to include carnival rides, petting zoo, local bands and food. The BBQ cooks began at 8 a.m. aiming for judging at about 11:30 a.m.

No parking on Sittig during display tonight

The City of Eunice will hold its fireworks display at the Eunice Recreation Complex located at 461 Sittig St. Gates will open to the public at 6 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at 9 p.m., which is about 30 minutes after sunset.

Demolition in the future for Moosa Hospital 

Bids will be sought this month to demolish Moosa Hospital which has been vacant since 2005 when Acadian Medical Center opened.  Newton “Chip” Thibodeaux Jr., chairman of the hospital board, said the finances for the demolition finally came together.

Peart shares a blast  with a July 4th tradition

The City of Eunice draws a huge crowd every July for its Fourth of July fireworks show.  The 30-minute show is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Monday at the Eunice Recreation Complex.

Workforce grows, jobless rates down

The Tri-Parish workforce grew by 778 people and the jobless rates were  down in May compared to a year ago, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.  The Tri-Parish workforce number 68,618 in May, up from 67,840 a year ago.  The workforce includes people employed and those looking for a job.

Box Fan Drive through July 8 Many Eunice businesses, as well as local area ones, are sponsoring a Box Fan Drive beginning today through July 8. Drop off locations include Eunice Manor, First Baptist Church in Eunice, and The Road Home Therapy Center in Church Point.

‘Country Journalist’ Forman inducted into La. Sports Hall of Fame

All roads lead to the banks of the Cane River as a new class of inductees joined the ranks of legendary athletes enshrined in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame on June 23. For this year’s 12 honorees, they all took different roads getting them to that point of their careers.
