School projects advance (Download the PDF list)

The St. Landry Parish School Board moved forward with Esser projects planned through 2024 and possibly longer at a meeting Thursday in Opelousas. The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund projects are grouped by high school attendance zones and total $44.4 million.

How about asking veterans to protect our schools?

There are about 5,000 veterans in St. Landry Parish and a former state Veterans of Foreign Wars commander suggested some of them would make excellent security guards for school.

New Life Pregnancy to hold Yard Sale and Farmer's Market Saturday The New Life Pregnancy Center, located at 1415 7th St. in Mamou, will hold a yard sale and farmer’s market from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Anyone selling fruits and vegetables can set up a table at no cost.

Basile mayor hosts Classic Car and Truck Show for City of Eunice

Basile Mayor Mark Denette is an classic car and truck enthusiast so it was no surprise that he hosted such a Car and Truck Show on June 4 for the City of Eunice Main Street’s “Spring into Summer” celebration. This was the fourth time that Denette has hosted this type of classic show in Eunice.

School district considers high school track repairs

The push for a capital improvements at St. Landry Parish public schools began publicly in April 2021 with a presentation involving high school principals about the school tracks and other facilities.

Church Point hospital hires new CEO

In less than three months, Acadia St. Landry Hospital has gone from having no CEO, to accepting the resignation of a board-appointed interim CEO, to appointing a second new interim CEO (and a new CNO) and, finally, announcing that a new CEO has been hired.

U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, R-Benton, will hold town hall meetings on Wednesday and Thursday to provide updates from Washington and take questions from constituents. Each town hall event is open to the public. Allen Parish town hall: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Kinder City Hall, 333 N. 8th St., Kinder.

How to help your  plants survive a drought

After last year’s record rainfall, it’s hard to believe that this year we are barely getting any rain at all. Watering my poor, wilted plants this morning, I recalled that I did not have to pull out my garden hose last year. Looking back at historical weather data, this is not abnormal.
