Committee OKs improvements, renovations at all Acadia campuses

An estimated $16 million in improvements and renovations at all 26 public school campuses will be considered when the Acadia Parish School Board meets in regular session in July. The projects were forwarded to the full board by the Budget and Finance Committee earlier this week.

Reber is VFW’s state commander

Don Reber is state commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for the Department of Louisiana. He was sworn-in June 19 at the Louisiana State Convention held in Alexandria. Reber is the only VFW commander from Eunice to hold the title as a state commander.

School Board deliberates over deficit, pay raise

The St. Landry Parish School Board deliberated over a proposed $1 million budget deficit and a $500 pay raise for teachers at the second of three meetings on its 2022-2023 budget. Superintendent Patrick Jenkins said, “Yes, we can submit a budget to you that would be a break even budget.

Pickleball Saturday, every Monday, Wednesday Free Pickleball will be offered from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday at the LSUE gym from 9 to 11 a.m. All equipment is provided free. No experience necessary. Pickleball will also be played from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, June 27 and Wednesday, June 29.

Body of former LSUE baskeball player found

The body of former LSUE basketball player Everette Jackson was found about 2 miles downstream from where he was last seen tubing on the Payette River. The Gem County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday in a press release that a volunteer located Jackson’s body.
