LSUE to host Cajun Prairie Authors Expo on July 23

Authors from across Acadiana will converge on the LSU Eunice campus on July 23 for the first Cajun Prairie Authors Expo. The LSU Eunice Library will host the free event inside the Dr. Anthony Mumphrey Center beginning at 9 a.m.

Fourth of July events start Friday in St. Landry Parish

The Fourth of July celebration in St. Landry Parish begins Friday with the three-day St. Landry BBQ Festival at the Yambilee grounds, 1939 W. Landry St., Opelousas. Activities are to include carnival rides, petting zoo, local bands and food. The festival is to open at 5 p.m.

City budget approved

A budget for the city fiscal year starting Friday was approved in a special meeting on Tuesday. In a special meeting presided over by Mayor Pro-tem Ernest Blanchard, the Board of Aldermen also approved an amended budget for the current year.

Box Fan Drive through July 8 Many Eunice businesses, as well as local area ones, are sponsoring a Box Fan Drive beginning today through July 8. Drop off locations include Eunice Manor, First Baptist Church in Eunice, and The Road Home Therapy Center in Church Point.

Eunice city budget meetings set Tuesday

A proposed budget for the fiscal year starting July 1 and amending the current budget are on agenda for hearings and passage at 9 a.m. Tuesday meeting of the Eunice Board of Aldermen. The proposed budget lists General Fund revenues at $5,024,010 and expenditures of $7,998,700.

Eunice fireworks display scheduled at Rec Complex

The City of Eunice will be hosting its yearly firework display on July 4 at the Eunice Recreation Complex located at 461 Sittig St. Gates will open to the public at 6 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at 9 p.m., which is about 30 minutes after sunset.
