Evangeline Parish buzzing over sheriff’s 911 proposal

Mamou native serves as a member of U.S. Navy’s ‘Silent Service’

A Mamou native is serving aboard USS Nebraska, one of the world’s most advanced nuclear-powered submarines. “Growing up he told me a lot of stories,” said Deshotel. “Once I reached my senior year, I started researching and decided to join as well.

Veterans celebrated

Veterans Day is nearly always a mix of celebrating the living veterans and those who died in service to the nation. At the Eunice VFW Post 8971 the ceremony is usually outside and then moved inside for a gumbo. Thursday’s celebration was held entirely inside the Post home as rain threatened.

Hamlin explains LSUE Ag program

Dr. John Hamlin, vice chancellor for academic affairs at LSUE, was the guest speaker at the Eunice Rotary meeting Wednesday. Hamlin discussed the future agriculture program that will be offered at LSUE for rural students who are in hopes of earning and pursuing an associates degree in Agriculture.

Eunice Food Bank plans food drive

Mary Ann Guillory, director of the Eunice Food Bank, has been steadily stocking the food shelves preparing for the annual Food Bank Food Drive from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 7. Guillory will accept all donations at this time and during the food drive.

Voting continues Saturday on constitutional amendments

Voting continues from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in election to decide on four state constitutional amendments. In early voting, 1,828 votes were cast in St. Landry Parish. In the state, there were 142,015 votes cast. The deadline for registrar to receive mail ballots is at 4:30 p.m.

Deshotel promoted at JD Bank

Kitty Jo Deshotel has promoted to senior vice president regional manager at JD Bank. Deshotel has more than 20 years of banking experience and joined JD Bank in 2013 with the merger of JD Bank and Guaranty Bank. She manages the JD Bank Eunice branch located at 300 Park Ave.
