Solar farm ordinance approved in St. Landry Parish

The St. Landry Parish Council approved an ordinance establishing a permitting process for solar farms in the parish. Parish President Jessie Bellard said NextEra Energy Resources has expressed an interest in establishing a solar farm in southeast St. Landry Parish.

VFW to collect for Toys for Tots

The VFW ‘s toy drive to support Toys for Tots at the VFW Post on U.S. 190 is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A drop off will be there so Boy Scout 425 and VFW veterans can collect unwrapped toys for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive.

Eunice Parade of Lights set Dec. 16 The Eunice Parade of Lights (Eunice Christmas Parade) is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16. The route will begin at North 2nd St. near The Flower House and will conclude at Eunice Jr. High School. Every float, trailer will be decked with Christmas lights.

Early voting set for Eunice road tax election

Early voting is scheduled Nov. 27 to Dec. 4 at the Eunice Municipal Complex for a tax renewal election. The election is scheduled on Dec. 11. Cheryl Milburn, parish registrar of voters, stated early voting also will be held at the registrar’s office, 118 S. Court St., Opelousas, Suite 114.

Keep Eunice Beautiful wins awards

Keep Eunice Beautiful won the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Circle of Excellence Award for the fifth year in a row. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot accepted the plaque to add to the wall of other KLB Circle of Excellence plaques.

Parish president says he is ready to work on land use rules

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard plans to begin work after Thanksgiving on land use rules for the parish. Bellard said he is ready to work on land use regulations or zoning of the parish at Wednesday’s Parish Council meeting.
