Creole-speaking Texan brings back zydeco jam

Zydeco and Creole accordion master Randall Jackson leads the return of the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas.

Veterans Day remembrance

For America, the Vietnam War lasted nearly 20 years and had a lasting impact on those involved directly and the nation as a whole. Direct involvement by the United States ended in 1975. Today, for Veterans Day the files of The Eunice News were searched on newspapers.com.

Veterans Day program Thursday

A Veterans Day ceremony is set for 11 a.m. today at the VFW Post 8971. Plans are for an outdoor ceremony, weather permitting, near the tank. All veterans and the public are invited. Guest speaker will be state Rep. Phillip DeVillier.

Is your name on list of those owed money? Find out on Sunday

In Sunday’s Eunice News, you’ll find a list of parish residents owed money by the state of Louisiana. The state currently has millions of dollars it wants to return to its rightful owner, but first it has to locate those to whom money is owed, according to State Treasurer John M. Schroder Sr.

Bulb & Blossom meeting set Nov. 8 The Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club will have its meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8 in the home of Barbara Wells. The topic is “Oaks for your Garden” and members are asked to bring leaves and acorns from their Oak trees.

St. Landry soldier one of last to die

We celebrate Veterans Day on or about November 11, because World War I ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. If it had ended on the 10th day, a young man from south Louisiana would not have died far from home.

Parish sales tax collections up 11.4%

Total sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish were up 11.4% through October compared to same period in 2020. Collections totaled $72,118,139 in October, up $7,352,124 over the collections in 2020, according to the monthly report released by St. Landry Parish School Board sales tax division.

St. Landry school chief wins 1-year contract extension

After a nearly 90 minute closed-door session, St Landry Parish school Superintendent Patrick Jenkins was voted a 12-month contract extension. The vote at Thursday’s School Board meeting occurred in front of a crowd that seemed against the contract.
