Early voting continues through Saturday

Early voting for the Dec. 11 Eunice election continues through Saturday at the Eunice Municipal Complex for a tax renewal election. Early voting also will be held at the registrar’s office, 118 S. Court St., Opelousas, Suite 114. Early voting hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 pm. each day.

Mayor: Essential street tax up for renewal

A 5-mill, 10-year property tax for street maintenance is for renewal in an election scheduled Dec. 11. Through Tuesday, 64 people have cast early votes — 42 in person — in the tax election. Early voting began Nov. 27 and ends Saturday.

Community Garden Festival today

The Eunice Community Garden holds a Christmas Festival from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today geared toward youngsters with about 15 booths planned, said Randy Miller, garden director. There will be hot chocolate, treats and games along with Christmas season lighting, he said.

Annual public ‘Road Show’ set for Acadiana Region on Dec. 7

The Joint Transportation, Highways, & Public Works Committee will conduct a legislative public hearing at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7 to review highway construction priorities for the fiscal year 2022-2023. The hearing will be is scheduled at the Clifton Chenier Center, Town Hall, 220 West Willow, Lafayette.

Eunice Parade of Lights set Dec. 16 The Eunice Parade of Lights (Eunice Christmas Parade) is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16. The route will begin at North 2nd St. near The Flower House and will conclude at Eunice Jr. High School. Every float, trailer will be decked with Christmas lights.

Christmas season starts with a toy drive today

The Christmas season in Eunice starts this week with the first Christmas Festival at VFW Post 8971 on U.S. 190 with a toy drive for Toys for Tots. A drop off will be there so Boy Scout 425 and VFW veterans can collect unwrapped toys for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive.

Refinery Mission breaks ground on transitional housing complex

OPELOUSAS — The Refinery Mission and its staff joined representatives from St. Landry Homestead Federal Savings Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas on Nov. 19 to break ground on a new transitional housing facility that will serve adult men.
