Vidrine named professor emeritus at LSUE

Dr. Malcolm Vidrine has been awarded the honorary title of professor emeritus, it was announced on Wednesday. Vidrine has served in an academic role at LSU Eunice for 37 years.

‘Parent choice’ quarantine rejected

St. Landry Parish School Board members rejected a parent choice quarantine option urged by Dr. Cade Brumley, state superintendent of Education. “The first thing I would like to know is the superintendent of education in Baton Rouge is he a scientist?” asked Board member Milton Ambres.

The St. Landry Parish School Board settled on a $150 million plan to build four kindergarten to fourth-grade schools if voters approve a 12.9-mill tax proposition.

CFMA Lake Charles announces 2 inductees into Hall of Fame

The Cajun French Music Association Lake Charles Chapter plans to induct two musicians into its Hall of Fame on Nov. 7. The late Cajun fiddler player Adam Landreneau and harmonica player Isom Fontenot are the honorees.

City plan to leverage local assets

An action plan for the City of Eunice is focusing on cultural assets as well as LSU Eunice. “This will lead to bigger and better things,” said Alicia Mire, the city’s Main Street and Tourism director. For instance, she pointed out LSUE enrolls more than 3,000 students and 98% commute to the school.

Eunice Manor Nursing Home is celebrating success. Nickie Toups, administrator at Eunice Manor, learned Friday in an email that Eunice Manor has been recognized on the 2022 list of America’s Best Nursing Homes by Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes.
