Sunday is Clean Out Your Freezer Day in Eunice

BATON ROUGE- Hunters For The Hungry is asking Louisiana to make room in their freezer for the upcoming hunting season by donating protein to one of the multiple drop-off locations throughout the state for the annual Clean Out Your Freezer Day, from September 20-26.

Legendary fiddler Courtney Granger dies

Local musician Courtney Wayne Granger passed away on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the age of 39. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Quirk & Son Funeral Home of Eunice with Father Clinton Sensat officiating. Burial followed in St. Louis Cemetery.

Relief supplies accepted at Fire Dept. The Eunice Fire Department’s main fire station, located at 100 Park, will accept donations of hygiene products, cleaning supplies, non-perishable food items, and water for delivery to Hurricane Ida victims. Donations can be made from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Eunice Library summer session draws praise

Staff Report Following a presentation on the Eunice Library’s summer reading program, the program earned praise. Judy Kittles, children’s librarian, gave a report to the Board of Aldermen at Tuesday’s meeting at the summer reading program.

Bulk trash issue seems to be solved

Problems with the removal of bulk waste from Eunice streets seems to have been solved. In July, city officials went to a St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Commission meeting to air complaints about bulk waste removal.

Fire chief reports on city’s response to Hurricane Ida

The Eunice Fire Department led a four-day response to assist with Hurricane Ida recovery in parishes of Terrebonne and Lafourche. At Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Fire Chief Mike Arnold detailed the response to Hurricane Ida that devastated areas of southeast Louisiana beginning Sept. 1.

Guillory selected for Tourism Commission

Angelia Guillory, of the Savoy-Swords community, was elected to fill a vacancy on the St. Landry Parish Tourism Commission. Guillory, an employee of the City of Eunice, will fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Lynn LeJeune, of Eunice. Guillory won the votes of Jerry Red Jr.

Longtime judge, John Saunders, dies

One of Evangeline Parish’s elder statesmen, who served as state senator and as a judge on the Third Circuit Court of Appeal, passed away on Monday at the age of 78. At the time of his death, John Saunders was near the end of his third term on the appellate court.
