CDA leads Rosary everyday in October Every day during the month of October, Court Eunice 208 Catholic Daughters of the Americas will be leading a rosary at 5:30 p.m. in the rosary garden at St. Anthony’s Church. The public is invited.

Louisiana State University at Eunice has been awarded more than $846,000 of grant funding through the Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities Initiative (WORC) it was announced last week.

St. Landry Parish School Board member dies

The St. Landry Parish School District announced that District 5 School Board member Denise Rose died Sept. 26. A cause of death was not released. Rose began her employment as a teacher at Melville Elementary in October 1999.

COVID situation improves, but problems persist at schools

COVID-19 positivity rates are down, but St. Landry Parish public schools still face issues such as hiring nurses and others to deal with the situation. Head school nurse Sylvia Brown said the COVID positivity rate dropped to 4.4% as of Sept. 16. The positivity rate for the Sept.

St. Landry Parish public schools asked to raise para-professional pay

Para-professionals are increasingly asked to perform teacher duties and their pay should reflect that, said Willie Guillory, president of the St. Landry Federation of Teachers and School Employees.

Tri-Parish jobless rates down

The Tri-Parish workforce in August was 66,994, down 2.8% or 1,903 from a year ago. August jobless rates in St. Landry, Acadia and Evangeline parishes are down compared to a year ago, according to statistics released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
