EHS senior project Toy Drive underway Eunice High School seniors Cameron Fontenot and Taneisha Chavis are collecting toys for a Toy Drive through Dec. 20. All toys can be brought by Eunice High School. Holiday Sing-along in Eunice A Holiday Sing-along is planned from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Former LSUE accountant hired to help parish finances

A former accountant at LSUE, Amanda Cain, has been hired to guide St. Landry Parish Government through a fiscal crisis.  Cain’s hiring was announced Wednesday by Parish President Bill Fontenot at an Administrative-Finance Committee meeting.

Tax plan aims to rebuild city roads, provide pay raises

City voters may be asked to double their property tax for 15 years and rededicate a sales tax to rebuild city streets and provide pay raises for city employees.  Two items are on the agenda for Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Evangeline Parish hires new school superintendent

The Evangeline Parish School District will be welcoming Darwan Lazard as their new superintendent in January after the school board unanimously voted to hire the Ville Platte native to fill the position on Monday.

Army vet walks to raise awareness for PTSD 

Eli Smith, a 36-year-old Army veteran, estimates he will walk about three and half years to each corner of the United States to raise awareness for post traumatic stress disorder.  On Thursday, Smith was in the Eunice City Hall where he spoke about his journey that begin Nov.

Move on to bring early voting to Eunice

Early voting for the next election involving Eunice voters may be held in Eunice. Early voting for all of St. Landry Parish now occurs in the registrar of voters office at the courthouse in Opelousas. Eunice Alderman Dale Soileau said Eunice voters don’t want to go to Opelousas.

Parade, concert today

Eight tons of food and other items were collected Tuesday during the 30th annual Eunice Food Bank Food Drive. Last year’s annual food drive Eunice Food Bank collected a little over five tons of food items and goods.

Senate, House seats to be decided in Saturday voting

Early voting numbers show interest in Saturday’s election may be lagging behind the November vote, which included the presidential election. Early voting for Saturday election ended Dec. 3 with 174,889 votes cast in the state compared to 531,555 in November.
