The following people obtained marriage licenses from the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Office. Wednesday, May 14 Daylin D’Shawn Chachere and Kyrstania Jana Moses, both of Opelousas. Shaun Amari Hudson and Nevaeh Elizabeth Nicole Potier, both of Eunice.

Memorial Day ceremony set Monday

There will be a Memorial Day Ceremony at 6 p.m. Monday, May 26 at the corner of Park Avenue and South 2nd near the Rotary fountain. The ceremony is sponsored by the VFW Post 8971, the American Legion 129, and the DAV Post 19 (Disabled American Veterans). The public is invited to attend.

Rep. Rhonda Butler elected to lead Legislative Rural Caucus

The Louisiana Legislative Rural Caucus has elected Rep. Rhonda Butler, R-Ville Platte, to lead the caucus for 2025-26. “Serving as chair of the Rural Caucus is an awesome responsibility that I am prepared to meet.” said Butler.

Chataignier sewer rates to increase

To help offset the ever rising costs associated with the village’s sewer system, the Chataignier Village Council voted to introduce an ordinance that would increase the sewer rates based on how many gallons each customer consumes.

Pine Prairie Energy Center taps enormous energy resource

Eunice native and petroleum engineer Andre Aguillard is working at the Pine Prairie Energy Center where natural gas formed over millions of years is mined from a salt dome. The Williams Company site is underground storage facility for gas “They do all these processes. They drill for it.

Acadiana journalist remembered

Carissa Hebert, who served as editor of the Ville Platte Gazette from 1998-2011, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, at the age of 59. A Catholic funeral service was held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice at 1 p.m. Saturday with Deacon Gary Gaudin officiating.

LSUE graduates urged to keep learning

LSUE’s graduates were urged to keep learning by commencement speaker Bill Fontenot, president and chief executive officer of Cleco. Fontenot, a 1983 LSUE graduate who went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering at LSU in Baton Rouge, questioned whether his degree fits his job.
