St. Landry Parish marriage licenses

The following people obtained marriage licenses from the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Office. Wednesday, April 23 Logan Chance Moreau and Bethany Renee Elam, both of Opelousas. Thursday, April 24 Jared Roy Arceneaux and Anna Rochelle Beford, both of Carencro.

Broussard goes from movie cameo to the Zydeco Capital Jam

Fresh off his appearance in the hit movie “Sinners,” accordion legend Jeffery Broussard returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. May 10 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center at I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas. The Zydeco Capital Jam is open to musicians of all skill levels.

VFW Post, Auxiliary honors Americanism Essay winners

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971 and Ladies Auxiliary sponsors an Americanism essay contest for Eunice students. Students from all Eunice elementary, junior high and high schools enter and participate in the contest.

Anti-litter campaign launches with $150 bounty

The St. Landry Crime Stoppers Board, in conjunction with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, begins a new anti-litter campaign: “Stow It, Don’t Throw It”.

Central Fire Station returns to service

Eunice firefighters moved back into Central Fire Station on April 17 after a two- year renovation project was completed. The Central Fire Station, located on Park Avenue, closed Jan. 18, 2023, due to roof and building renovations.

CDA meeting set Monday The Catholic Daughters of Americas meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the Jeanmard Hall on N 3rd Street. Non-members are invited to learn more about the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at this meeting.

Sunset Herb & Garden Festival is Saturday

For over 20 years, the Sunset Garden Club has held the Annual Sunset Herb & Garden Festival in Sunset on the first Saturday in May. Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Festival vendors specialize in a variety of plants. Because of this, they can answer your questions about growing and cultivation.

Jobless rate ticked up in March

The Tri-Parish unemployment rates ticked up in March and the workforce count rose slightly, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Louisiana’s not seasonally adjusteda unemployment rate for March is 4.4%. This shows an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the revised February rate of 4.
