Additional study asked for school spirit attire

A proposal to allow school spirit attire in St. Landry Parish public schools is headed back to committee for more study. That was the decision by the School Board for the proposal by Board member Renee Aymond at the May 1 Board meeting.

LSU Eunice staff, faculty honored at annual Excellence Dinner

LSU Eunice celebrated its dedicated faculty and staff at the annual Faculty and Staff Excellence Dinner on May 5, recognizing years of service, professional achievement, and retirements during a dinner reception inside the Dr. Anthony Mumphrey Center.

LSU Eunice to postpone Wednesday finals, moved to Saturday

With expected severe rain to impact the greater south Louisiana area, LSU Eunice will close campus on Wednesday out of caution for our entire campus community. All in-person final examinations that are scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for Saturday.

Sandbags available

St. Landry Parish Government has sandbag available at the Yambilee Building in Opelousas and the Northwest Pavilion in Eunice. Heavy rainfall is predicted overnight.

Eunice Farmers’ Market starts May 14 The Eunice Farmers’ Market begins its summer season on May 14. The market will be open twice a week, weather permitting, on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon. The market is located on South 2nd St. between Café Mosaic and the library.

Homemade garden soil health tests

From Bulb and Blossom Garden Club There are several tests that will tell you a lot about the health and condition of your garden soil. The first test measures how fast water absorbs into the soil. Watering methods should be consistent with the soils ability to absorb.

Broussard goes from movie cameo to the Zydeco Capital Jam

Fresh off his appearance in the hit movie “Sinners,” accordion legend Jeffery Broussard returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. May 10 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center at I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas. The Zydeco Capital Jam is open to musicians of all skill levels.

VFW Post, Auxiliary honors Americanism Essay winners

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971 and Ladies Auxiliary sponsors an Americanism essay contest for Eunice students. Students from all Eunice elementary, junior high and high schools enter and participate in the contest.
