Anti-litter campaign launches with $150 bounty

The St. Landry Crime Stoppers Board, in conjunction with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, begins a new anti-litter campaign: “Stow It, Don’t Throw It”.

Central Fire Station returns to service

Eunice firefighters moved back into Central Fire Station on April 17 after a two- year renovation project was completed. The Central Fire Station, located on Park Avenue, closed Jan. 18, 2023, due to roof and building renovations.

Sunset Herb & Garden Festival is Saturday

For over 20 years, the Sunset Garden Club has held the Annual Sunset Herb & Garden Festival in Sunset on the first Saturday in May. Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Festival vendors specialize in a variety of plants. Because of this, they can answer your questions about growing and cultivation.

Jobless rate ticked up in March

The Tri-Parish unemployment rates ticked up in March and the workforce count rose slightly, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Louisiana’s not seasonally adjusteda unemployment rate for March is 4.4%. This shows an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the revised February rate of 4.

Prairie Center summer programs

Summer Family Days are planned at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve Prairie Acadian Cultural Center in June and July. The free program include sessions on reading, crafts, museum exploring and games. The programs, all from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St. Francis School crawfish boil set St. Francis School will have a crawfish boil from 5 to 7 p.m. May 9 at the school grounds, 490 St. Joseph Ave, Iota. For a donation of $16 you will have 4 pounds of boiled crawfish with a potato. Deadline for advanced orders is May 7.
