CFA elects officers, names Board members

LAFAYETTE —Community Foundation of Acadiana announced the election of officers and the appointment of new board members to its 2025 Board of Directors.

Legislators tour key industries

CROWLEY — State Rep. Chance Henry recently hosted an insightful economic tour with Louisiana Speaker of the House Rep. Phillip DeVillier, District 41, highlighting the vital industries that drive the region’s economy.
Since June 2024 there has been public discussions about how much the parish government should pay for the building at 306 W. Landry St., Opelousas. The issue was apparently settled at Wednesday’s Parish Council meeting. The building is shown in a July 2024 photo.

Council settles clerk’s request

A question about how much the St. Landry Parish Government should pay the clerk of court for record storage in a building the clerk owns in Opelousas seems to be settled. The Parish Council approved Clerk of Court Charles Jagneaux’s request for funding at its meeting on Wednesday in Opelousas.

The Eunice Rotary Club is accepting nominations for the 2024 Citizen of the Year Award. The award recognizes someone who has shown extraordinary community spirit and given outstanding service to the greater Eunice community in 2024, although service from other years may also be considered.

Cheer sponsors are to be coaches

High school and junior high school cheer sponsors will likely become cheer coaches in St. Landry Parish. And the cheer coaches will be be paid a stipend just like the football, basketball and other athletic coaches.

Edwards crony Cecil Brown dies

Cecil Brown, the Eunice man who was a key player with former Gov. Edwin Edwards, died Feb. 12 at his home, according to a family obituary. Brown was 80 years old. Brown was described as the “front man” for Edwards in bribery schemes.
