Inmates earn high school diplomas

The St. Landry Parish Jail booked 3,292 inmates in 2018. Each of those inmates was treated with respect and their constitutional rights were observed.

Reward approved for cattle death informant

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Livestock Brand Commission approved a $500 reward for an informant who called in information to the Livestock Crime Stoppers Hotline.

One Acadiana launches drive for higher education

One Acadiana joined partners from across the region to launch “55 by 25,” an initiative with a goal of increasing the proportion of working adults in Acadiana with postsecondary degrees, certificates, or other high-value credentials to 55 percent by 2025.

Eunice MLK celebration scheduled

Eunice native Sandra Gayle Johnson Simmons will be the keynote speaker at the 33rd Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. City-Wide Celebration on Jan. 19. The theme is “Moving Forward Together ... Who Got Next? It Takes a Village,” according to a news release from the committee headed by Jacqueline Vallare.

Eunice Elementary bid approved; Eunice High championship year celebrated

Mary Ellen Donatto was elected president of the St. Landry Parish School Board without opposition at Thursday’s Board meeting. Donatto, who retired as principal at East Elementary, is in her second year on the School Board. She was elected without opposition in qualifying July 2018.

Morris Doucet

Morris Doucet passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the age of 87. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Fr. Mathew Hebert will officiate.
