Miss Eunice, Teen Miss Eunice set Aug. 26 The Eunice Pageant Organization, along with the city of Eunice, will present a Miss Eunice Pageant at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Northwest Community Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from any contestant or at the door for $10.

State's jobless rate drops to 3.4%

Data released today by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that Louisiana has once again set all-time records for both the unemployment rate and the number of unemployed. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July 2023 is 3.4 percent, the lowest rate in series history.

Ville Platte man dies in Evangeline Parish wreck

Jarred S. Matte, 38, of Ville Platte, died in a wreck on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office. A call of a wreck on Tiger Lane was received at 5:27 p.m. Aug. 16.

LPB to air documentary on Cajundome’s Katrina chapter

In the hours following the landfall of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005, flooding drove tens of thousands of evacuees away from their homes. Exhausted and desperate, over 18,000 evacuees left with little more than the clothes on their backs and headed to Lafayette toward the Cajundome Arena.

Parish Council OKs ordinance creating planning commission

A parish planning commission is to be created after the St. Landry Parish Council approved an ordinance for it at Wednesday’s meeting. The ordinance passed unanimously without comment from Council members or at a public hearing.
