Deadline approaches to claim state tax refunds

Monday is the deadline to claim millions of dollars in state tax refunds before they move to the state’s Unclaimed Property fund.

Central Middle principal arrested

The principal of Central Middle School in Eunice is accused of encouraging two juvenile students to fight in his presence. Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef reported Brett Simien, 48, of Church Point, was arrested on Thursday on misdemeanor warrant for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.

Easton Lavergne

Easton Lavergne passed away on August 22, 2023 at the age of 81. His wishes were to donate his body to science. There are no plans for a memorial at this time.

Jury finds man guilty of sex crimes

A St. Landry Parish Jury found Michael Comeaux guilty of sexual battery (victim under 13 years of age) and pornography involving juveniles on Wednesday after a two-day trial, according to St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre.

A St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Street Team traffic enforcement effort on La. 13 in the Eunice area yielded a drug bust on Aug. 22, according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. Deputies stopped a black Chevrolet Impala headed south on La. 13.

DOTD announces start of $6.4M investment on La. 358 in St. Landry Parish
