Louisiana’s March employment hits record high for series

BATON ROUGE — Data released Friday by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted labor force data has again set several new records. The number of employed for March is 2,030,553, a record high for the series.

Crowley Lions learn health benefits of Eunice rice brand

“This is a game-changer for diabetics. It’ll put rice back in their diets,” Victoria Callahan, sales representative for Eunice-based Parish Rice, told members of the Crowley Lions Club earlier this week. Callahan said the low glycemic index for Parish Rice makes it ideal for diabetics.

Sheriff announces 3 academy grads

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office announced the graduation of three more sheriff’s deputies from the 61st session of St. Martin Sheriff’s Basic Training Academy. The sheriff’s office also had an additional deputy attend the academy for a refresher course after being hired from another state.

1953 rains brought more than cats and dogs

There were some pretty good thunderstorms across south Louisiana on April 24, 1953 — the kind we see regularly when fronts slide through the area. Nobody suspected they were the beginning of a series of downpours that eventually sent every stream in south Louisiana way out of its banks.

Eunice director of operations wins McDonald’s highest mid-level operations award

Bridget Miller, a 28-year employee of Patel McDonald’s in Eunice, has received the McDonald’s 2022 Outstanding Operations Contributor Award for her exceptional work in restaurant operations.
