Remembering growing up female

I just saw the trailer for a movie that made me actually tear up. The preview of “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret” propelled me backward in time, over 50 years, to a moment when I was in the sixth grade and sitting in a corner, falling in love with a book of the same title that changed my life.

Richard Ieyoub was a class public official

Former three-term Attorney General Richard Ieyoub passed away last week at the age of 78. He was currently serving as Louisiana’s commissioner of conservation, overseeing the regulation of all oil and gas activities in the state.

NASA taps UL Lafayette’s CAPE satellite student team for return to space

A small solar-powered satellite designed and built by University of Louisiana at Lafayette student researchers will measure radiation levels in space to help keep astronauts – and the public – safe.

Information sought about double homicide in December

St. Landry Crime Stoppers and Opelousas Police needs help in solving a double homicide in the city of Opelousas. On Dec. 1, 2022, just after 10 p.m., Opelousas Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Ina Clare Drive for a shooting complaint.

City to launch wastewater plant design work

Two utility upgrades were announced at the recent Board of Aldermen’s meeting. Karl Aucoin, city engineer, said the city is “undertaking a pretty large project” to reconstruct the existing wastewater plant. There are two plants. One is about 70 years old and the other is about 30 years old, he said.

Board to interview superintendent candidates

The St. Landry Parish School Board will interview five candidates for its superintendent job today and Friday. The five candidates are Milton Batiste III, Curt Green, Paul Nelson, Michael Robinson Jr. and Shirley Thibodeaux. Today’s meeting is to start at 4 p.m.

The Senate Committee on Health and Welfare advanced a bill Tuesday to require Louisiana operating rooms to have equipment to remove harmful surgical smoke plumes. The bill’s author, Sen.

Eunice High grad is nominee for federal judge

Eunice High school graduate Darrel Papillion is a nominee for U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Papillion is a 1986 graduate of Eunice High School. He also attended LSUE. Speaking French, Papillion was an early morning disc jockey at KEUN radio station in Eunice.
