Fire claims house

Firefighters from Acadia Parish Fire District 4 responded and reported to a house fire at 3:26 p.m. Friday at 162 Dan Drive located in Acadia Parish. Other firefighters responding to the fire included those from Richard Iota, Branch and Fire District 6.

A 30-year-old Mamou woman is accused of stealing nearly $38,000 from a nursing home patient using credit cards, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Opelousas man indicted in 4-year-old daughter’s death

A St. Landry Parish Grand Jury indicted an Opelousas man for the second-degree murder of his 4-year-old daughter on Nov. 20, 2021. Joseph C. Mayon, Jr. was indicted on Jan. 26 for second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, according to District Attorney Chad Pitre.
