Bobcats sweep Green Demons

The Eunice High Bobcats completed a two-game series sweep against the Mamou High Green Demons in District 5-3A baseball action at Bobcat Field on Tuesday. The Bobcats had taken a 17-4 victory in the first meeting at Mamou last week.
The Green Demons put together a more competitive game on Tuesday, taking an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning against Eunice starting pitcher Luke Andrepont. Coach Scott Phillips relieved Andrepont with Jayden Brasseaux, who retired the side to limit the damage.

Lady Jays win district title

The celebration would have been bigger with a win, but St. Edmund captured its first district softball championship since 2004 Monday on Senior Day.
St. Edmund earned the 2001 district championship over Mamou and then shared the title with Merryville in 2004.
South Cameron (11-11, 5-3) earned 6-5 win over the Lady Jays, sparked by home runs by Shelby Welch and Karlee Nunez.
The Lady Tarpons junped out to a 1-0 lead when Maeleigh Conner walked and scored on a double by Nunez.

LSUE tops NJCAA stats

With both teams ranked in the top five of the NJCAA baseball and softball polls, LSU Eunice also leads the nation in several key categories.
The top-ranked Bengals lead Division II with 128 stolen bases and presently second with 84 doubles.
LSUE is third with 337 runs scored, 287 RBI and 212 walks.
The Bengal pitchers are ranked seventh with 282 strikeouts.
Cameron Horton is second in the country with 46 RBI.
Mason Templet is third in the nation with 31 walks and is seventh with 43 runs scored.
Koi Westbrook is fourth with 26 stolen bases.

Lady Bobcats honor seniors

The afternoon started with the Lady Bobcats honoring three seniors, but it ended with the Lady Demons celebrating as Mamou rolled to a 13-1 win over Eunice.
The Green Demons exploded for seven runs in the top of the second, begun when Dacia Richard singled and courtesy runner Whittney Manuel scored on a double by Emily Soileau.
Taylor Douget reached on an error and Angel Menier doubled in two runs to push Mamou ahead, 3-0.
Terranie Thomas reached on an error and Sophia Fritz walked to load the bases.

4-1A All-District team named

Two St. Edmund Blue Jays were named to the 4-1A All-District Boys Basketball Team as selected by the league coaches.
Alex Dupre and Henry Brown were named to the Honorable Mention list.
Grand Lake (25-7, 13-1)and Hamilton Christian (22-11, 13-1) shared the district championship and top honors.
South Cameron’s Andrew Young (20 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game) and Michael Thomas (17 ppg, 4.7 rpg) were shared Most Valuable Player honors.
Hamilton Christian’s Dexter Washington and Mark Caldwell from Grand Lake were voted as Co-Coaches of the Year.
