LSUE places 27 student-athletes on NJCAA All-Academic teams

LSU Eunice continued to shine on the field of play and in the classroom as 27 student-athletes received All-Academic Team honors by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the organization announced on July 18. Four of the five athletic teams on campus had honorees on the team.

LSUE Baseball to hold baseball stadium groundbreaking celebration

LSU Eunice Baseball will kick off the construction of its new stadium with a groundbreaking celebration at 9 a.m. Friday in the shadows of the original Bengal Stadium on the LSUE campus as construction has already commenced.

7-on-7 preps the passing game

It’s another step in the process of getting better over the summer months. High school seven-on-seven tournaments have taken off in recent years as an opportunity to teams to improve their passing offenses. The rules are simple: games are on a 20-minute running clock. Only passing plays are allowed.

LSU’s Jayden Daniels named Roy Kramer SEC Male Athlete of the Year

LSU’s Heisman Trophy quarterback Jayden Daniels added another prestigious award to his resume as he was named the 2023-2024 Roy F. Kramer SEC Male Athlete of the Year by a vote of the league’s athletics directors, Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Tuesday.

LSUE names Plumbar its men’s soccer head coach

LSU Eunice has tabbed John Plumbar to serve as its next men’s soccer head coach, it was announced on Wednesday. Plumbar comes to the Cajun Prairie with extensive coaching experience in the club and high school levels, based out of nearby Lafayette.

Alyson Habetz introduced as Ragin’ Cajun’s softball coach

Crowley favorite sons — Nelson Stokley and Tony Robichaux — both were greeted by large, enthusiastic crowds when they were formally named head coaches of their respective major sports at the University of Louisiana: Stokley in football and Robichaux in baseball.

Summer training lifts fall success

Championship teams are never built in the summertime. But, they certainly could be destroyed there. It’s the reason why summer strength and conditioning programs have become so important to high school football programs around the state. It’s in the dog days of summer where resilience is built.

Rhett Manuel, a native of Eunice and teacher at Eunice High School, has been tabbed to replace longtime Sports Editor Tom Dodge here at the Eunice News.
