Hornets sweep Blue Jays

Catholic HIgh of Pointe Coupee grabbed a key District 5-1A sweep over St. Edmund Friday night.
St. Edmund’s Gabby Fontenot drilled a pair of treys early to give the Lady Jays a 6-0 advantage but CHPC answered with three pointers from Kennedi Broussard and Jolie Thibodeaux.
Abby Miller scored for the Lady Jays before Emily Cazayoux scored for the Lady Hornets.
Maggie Larriviere added a bucket to give the Lady Jays a 10-8 lead before a late free throw by CHPC’s Maggie Lambert closed the gap to one point.

Lady Bengals release schedule

The defending softball national champion LSU Eunice Lady Bengal softball team released its2017 schedule this week.
“I was looking to get a few more home games but it looks like we are playing 75 percent of our games on the road,” LSUE head coach said. “That should toughen us up as we go through early season challenges.”
The Lady Bengals open the season at the Galveston College Tournament during the last weekend in January.

Lady Cats open district with win

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats opened District 5-3A play with a 62-35 victory over the Port Barre Lady Red Devils in basketball action Monday night at the Bobcat gym.
The Lady Cats managed an 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, with sophomore Stacie White leading the scoring with seven points.
Eunice would pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Red Devils by a 23-12 margin.
Leah Walker had six points and White added five to lead the Lady Cats in scoring in the quarter to take a 34-12 lead.

Lady Bengals fall to LSUA

ALEXANDRIA – The LSU Eunice Lady Bengals began 2017 with back-to-back road losses to fall to 4-10 on the season.
The Lady Bengals fell 74-54 to LSU Alexandria Thursday night after losing 81-72 to Bossier Parish Community College on Monday.
A slow start hampered the Lady Bengals as LSUA jumped out to a 12-5 first quarter lead, aided by six points from Nicole Bouillion.
Jaleya Gold led the Lady Bengals with three points in the opening period.
The two offenses warmed up in the second quarter as LSUA outscored the Lady Bengals 27-19 to grab a 39-24 halftime lead.

Getting ready for the new baseball season

While their classmates may be enjoying the holiday break, the LSU Eunice baseball team has been busy preparing for the upcoming 2017 season.
“They all had exit meetings with the coaches at the conclusion of the fall season,” head baseball coach Jeff Willis said. “We discussed where they stood with the team, what their strengths and weaknesses are as well as a grade given by their teammates.”
The players underwent workouts each day of their break in preparation of their return on Jan. 10.
