Bobcats cruise past Wolves

The Eunice High Bobcats took an early lead and never surrendered it as they claimed a 69-48 victory over the Rayne High Wolves in non-district basketball action Tuesday evening at the Bobcat gym.
Eunice outscored the Wolves by a 17-6 margin in the first quarter and enjoyed a 35-17 lead at halftime.
Mykal Moore and Brandon Ndubueze combined to spark the early lead for the Bobcats with Moore scoring eight and Ndubueze scoring 10 in the first half.

OC sweeps Jays

Defense dominated the night as Opelousas Catholic earned a non-district sweep over St. Edmund.
The Lady Vikings (4-10) opened with an 8-5 first quarter run as OC earned a 29-19 win over the Lady Jays (3-12).
St. Edmund’s Allison Lafleur scored the game’s first bucket before OC’s Allie Carriere and Danielle Leblanc pushed in buckets for OC.
Lady Jay Maggie Larriviere hit a free throw to close the margin to 4-3, but Elissa David later drilled a trey to give the Lady Vikings a 7-3 advantge.

Panthers run past Jays

PINE PRAIRIE – The Panthers opened with a 30-16 first quarter run as Pine Prairie cruised to an 89-49 win over St. Edmund Tuesday night.
Darnell Durgin pushed in 13 points to help the Panthers (10-4) grab the early advantage.
Stephan Thibodeaux scored six points for the Blue Jays (2-13), while Christian Fontenot and Alex Dupre each contributed four points in the period.
Pine Prairie continued its dominance with a 17-11 second period as the Panthers took a 47-27 lead into the locker room.

Blue Jays fall to Hackberry

The offensive struggles continued for St. Edmund as the Blue Jays dropped their sixth game in a row.
Hackberry jumped out to a 12-6 first quarter advantage and the Mustangs rolled to a 61-21 win Tuesday night at the Blue Jay gym.
The Mustangs (7-9) pushed out to a 5-0 lead before the Jays responded with a trey by Carter Andrus and a drive in the lane from Stephan Thibodeaux.
Blue Jay Alex Dupre later hit a free throw to close the gap to 10-6 but a last-second shot off the glass gave Hackberry a 12-6 advantage.

Cajuns fall in New Orleans Bowl

NEW ORLEANS - Southern Miss running back Ito Smith scored three touchdowns and wide receiver Allenzee Staggers set a pair of single-game receiving records as the Golden Eagles defeated Louisiana 28-21 in the 16th Annual R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Saturday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
