Bobcats stun Raiders

The Eunice High Bobcats claimed a 62-61 victory over the Northwest High Raiders in District 5-3A play Friday night at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats held the early advantage by a 21-16 margin at the end of the first quarter after Jude Cormier scored the first five points for the Bobcats.
Malik Poullard drained two three-point goals and added a three-point play attacking the goal and drawing a foul.

Bengals begin with strong showing

The second-ranked LSU Eunice baseball team opened the 2017 season with a 12-2, 11-5, 11-1 sweep over North Lake College.
LSUE will entertain Southwest Tennessee Community College in a four-game series beginning 6 p.m. Thursday.
Bo Myers (Zachary) went 4-for-6 in two games against North Lake with seven RBI and a home run.
Michael Claverie (Live Oak)went 6-for-12 with five RBI and a home run in three games.
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe) went 4-for-8 with five RBI and a home run in three games.

Lady Jays win thriller

NEW ROADS – St. Edmnud’s Abby Miller hit two free throws in the closing seconds to help lift the Lady Jays to a 45-44 District 5-1A win over Catholic High of Pointe Coupee Tuesday night.
The Lady Hornets (15-4, 4-3) scored a free throw to put CHPC on the verge of a win, but the visiting Lady Jays (9-14, 5-2) had other ideas as Miller made the two critical free throws.
St. Edmund jumped out to a 15-11 first quarter lead, sparked by six points from Camille Leger and five more by Allison Lafleur.

Bobcats, Pine Prairie split games

The Eunice High Bobcats claimed a District 5-3A victory over Pine Prairie in basketball action played Friday at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats pulled away from the Panthers in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Panthers by a 23-18 margin to claim the win.
The Bobcats were hot in the first quarter, scoring the first seven points of the quarter for the quick lead.
The Cats built an 11-5 lead with 3:35 remaining in the quarter, but the Panthers went on an 8-4 run to pull within 15-13 by the end of the first quarter.

Lady Bengals celebrate championship

It was fitting that the father of LSU Eunice’s head softball coach would speak to the crowd waiting to celebrate the Lady Bengals’ 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II championship.
Former major league baseball pitcher Bill “Spaceman” Lee was the main speaker at the annual LSU-Eunice Hall of Fame Gala held Saturday night.
Lee praised his son, Andy and the entire Lady Bengal team as LSUE won its fourth title.
“I didn’t go out to break any one’s record, I just played,” he said.
