OPELOUSAS – The St. Landry Parish jamboree is holding its 21st annual jamboree and Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair has been a part of the games since its inception. Eunice, Northwest and Port Barre are in District 5-3A, but will not face each other in the jamboree.

One step closer to the season

With the local teams scrimmaging this week, that means football season is just around the corner. Eunice travels to Kaplan at 5:30 p.m. today as the Bobcats face to the 2017 Class 3-A state semifinalists.

Francois joins EHS Hall of Fame

Jerry Francois was a dominating athlete in the late 1950s for the Eunice High Bobcat Track and Field team.

Nagata jamboree adds third game

The sixth annual Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree will have a new twist this season with the addition of the third game to the format. The Nagata jamboree will be held Aug. 24 at St. Edmund’s Blue Jay Field. The Iota Bulldogs will take on the Southside Sharks at 6 p.m. in the opening game.

Fontenot added to EHS Hall of Fame

Raymond Fontenot played football under the guidance of Coach Faize Mahfouz during the Bobcat seasons of 1951-1953. Fontenot, a center, was named Honorable Mention All-State in 1953.

2018 top athletes named

Their high school careers will be remembered for their accomplishments as stellar athletes and quality individuals. The Eunice News Athletes of the Year are Eunice High’s Robbi Palmer and Jaden Brasseaux along with St. Edmund’s Abby Miller and Murphy Richard.

Matt joins EHS Sports Hall of Fame

Leonard Matt may be one of the most diverse athletes in the history of Eunice High sports. From 1956 through 1958, Charles Leonard Matt was a key performer for the Eunice High Bobcats in football, basketball, and track.

Destrehan rallies in seventh to upend Millers in state tourney
