Bobcats cruise past Mustangs

In the opening game of the Class 3A bi-district state baseball playoffs, the Eunice High Bobcats used a five-run first inning to take an early 5-0 lead against visiting Avoyelles High. But No. 8 Mustangs (12-14) managed a five run third inning to make the game interesting before the No.

Bulldogs run past Abbeville, 10-0

IOTA – Bulldog pitcher Tristan Miller threw a complete game no-hitter as Iota defeated Abbeville 10-0 Monday in the opening round of the Class 3-A baseball playoffs. No. 3 Iota jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead, begun when Will Doughty doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tristan Miller.

Lady Jays, Iota fall in softball playoffs

RUSTON – The No. 16 St. Edmund Lady Jays had its season end in the LHSAA Division IV regionals with a 14-0 loss to No. 1 Cedar Creek. Lady Cougar pitcher Lauren Menzina struck out 11 and limited the Lady Jays to two hits in the five-inning mercy-rule contest.

Eunice teams finish second in district

IOTA – The Eunice track teams battled at the District 5-3A meet, but both the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats finished second in the tough competition. The Lady Cats had won six straight district championships from 2012 to 2017.

Bobcats honor seniors

In the battle for the District 5-3A championship, Iota High earned a two-game sweep over the Eunice Bobcats. The Bulldogs rallied back from an early seven run deficit to claim a 9-7 victory over the Bobcats in the first game of a two game series.

Blue Jays share district

By Tom Dodge Sports Editor LAKE CHARLES – Blue Jay pitchers Bryce Vidrine and Brad Miller combined for a two-hit shut out St. Edmund cruised to a 14-0 mercy-rule win over Hamilton Christian. With the victory, St. Edmund earned a share of the District 4-1A title.

Bobcat duo heads to next level

Their dreams to play college ball will come true for Eunice High senior baseball players Joshua Youngblood and Jayden Brasseaux. Youngblood signed a national letter of intent to play for Nicholls State University, while Brasseaux heads to Baton Rouge Community College.

Lady Dogs roll in playoff win

IOTA – The No. 10 Iota Lady Bulldogs opened the Class 3-A state softball playoffs with a 14-4 win over No. 23 Iowa. Iota (23-9) will take on the Kaplan in the regional round. No. 7 Kaplan (21-7) rolled to a 16-1 win over No. 26 Jennings in the bi-district round.

Lady Demons slip past Port Barre

MAMOU – It took seven innings before any one scored and then two more to determine a winner. Mamou’s Madison Fontenot doubled in the bottom of the ninth, advanced on a passed ball and then scored on a bunt by Dacia Richard as the Lady Demons grabbed a 2-1 win over Port Barre.
