Eunice, Lady Bears fall in playoff opener

LONGVILLE – The No. 25 seed Lady Bobcats battled No. 8 South Beauregard, but the Lady Knights earned a 3-1 win over Eunice High in the opening round of the Class 3-A softball playoffs.

Kaplan High 3-peats as parish champs

The Kaplan Pirates and the Lady Pirates took care of business on Wednesday by sweeping the Vermilion Parish Track and Field Meet. Each school won the meet by at least 20 points. It is the third year in a row that both the Kaplan boys and girls win the track meet.

Notre Dame qualifies 16 for regional tennis action

A total of 16 players will be representing Notre Dame’s tennis teams at this week’s Division III Regional in Lake Charles. The 16 men and women qualified at district competition last week. The Pios had an overall league record of 8-4 and the Lady Pios finished the regular season at 7-5.

Red Devils use late surge to upend Gents

The Crowley Gents rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough in a 10-9 loss to Port Barre Thursday afternoon. The Gents (5-22, 3-7) overcame a 4-2 deficit in the top of the sixth when they pushed across four runs on five hits to take a 6-4 advantage.

A’jah Kneeland dominated the field once again, tallying 38 points during the week to help lead the Crowley Ladies to the team title at the Bear Paw Relays host by Church Point High School.

Abbeville pole vaulter signs track scholarship with Northwestern State

Northwestern State University is becoming the place to go for Abbeville High School athletes. Former AHS athletes who signed athletic scholarships to Northwestern are Janae Allen and Rechelle Bessard, both in track and Jason O’Brien signed for football.
