Bobcats, Lady Jays win at tourney

The Brad Fontenot Memorial Holiday Shootout concluded with several exciting contests. In a battle between the Bobcats and Green Demons, Eunice escaped with a 65-64 win over Mamou. The two teams were tied 9-9 after the first quarter.

Lady Jays win at Holiday Shootout

The St. Edmund Lady Jays opened the Brad Fontenot Memorial Holiday Shootout with a 43-14 win over South Cameron. After Rielly Marks scored for South Cameron, the Lady Jays answered with a 10-0 run.

St. Ed’s to hold Holiday tourney

There will be plenty of games for basketball fans attending the second annual Brad Fontenot Memorial Holiday Shootout. The tournament will tip off Monday at both St. Edmund gyms with 16 boys teams in two brackets along with eight girls teams in a round robin format.

Lady Jays slip past Kaplan

It was a game controlled by the defenses until the Lady Jays exploded for 17 points in the fourth quarter as St. Edmund grabbed a 37-28 win over Kaplan. Mary Helen Miller hit a trey for the Lady Jays’ first points and Blair Winch followed with a bucket for the Lady Pirates.

Athletes earn academic all-state honors

They performed well on both the football field the classroom and 24 local athletes have been recognized for their accomplishments.

4-4A All-District football team named

By Tom Dodge Sports Editor Eunice High finished the football season as District 4-4A runners-up and 14 Bobcats earned all-district honors. Rayne’s Bleyton Young was named Offensive MVP, while Eunice’s Hayden Darbonne was selected Defensive MVP.

Raiders run past Bobcats in parish tourney

PRAIRIE BASSE –Northwest’s early surge proved to big for the Bobcats to overcome as the Raiders grabbed a 63-53 win over Eunice in the St. Landry Parish basketball tournament. The Raiders opened the game with an 8-0 run before Rondrelyn Mitchell scored for the Bobcats.

Lady Jays down Basile, 58-40

In a battle between rivals, St. Edmund exploded for 35 second half points as the Lady Jays grabbed a 58-40 win over Basile. St. Ed’s opened the game with a 7-0 run, sparked by a three-point play by Mary Helen Miller along with buckets from Greta Miller and Madison Comeau.
