St. Ed’s splits wins with Plainview

The Lady Jays hung tough with fourth-ranked Plainview for three quarters. But the Lady Hornets out scored St. Edmund 20-8 in the final period to grab a 52-38 win. The Lady Jays opened strong with a 5-2 first quarter surge, sparked by buckets from Rebecca Benoit and Tanzy Miller.

Rayne sweeps Eunice

RAYNE – It was a district sweep over Eunice for Rayne Tuesday. Rayne 59, Eunice 47 Eunice’s Leah Walker got it started for the Lady Bobcats after nailing two mid-range shots to start off the game. Rayne responded with four points from Paige Figaro.

Blue Jays sweep Sacred Heart

It was easy to tell that rivals were facing each other Wednesday as St. Edmund battled Sacred Heart of Ville Platte. Using the emotion of a crowded gym filled with Blue Jay fans wearing white, St. Edmund earned a sweep over Sacred Heart. The Lady Jays opened with a 15-5 run as St.

Blue Jays give out fall sports awards

St. Edmund athletics celebrated its fall sports with a ceremony as numerous athletes were recognized. In volleyball, Anna Belle Fontenot, Savannah DeVillier, Rebecca Benoit and Sarah Duplechain received patches for earning All-District and All-Parish honors.

Eunice falls in district opener

The Eunice Lady Cats fell in the District 4-4A opener to North Vermilion, 49-42. Eunice got on the board first with a layup from Shanyia Toussaint. North Vermilion made their first basket with 4:45 left to go in the first quarter.

Class 4-A All-State list released

Although their roads didn’t end where they had hoped entering the Class 4A state football playoffs, both Neville defensive back Andrew Cagle and Lakeshore quarterback Christian Westcott had seasons their respective schools will be talking about for quite some time.

Marcantel earns All-State honors

Longtime rivals Oak Grove and Ouachita Christian accomplished the rarest of feats in bringing two state championships to District 2-1A. Both combined for 11 first-team selections to the Class 1A All-State team voted by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

The Lady Jays used a balanced scoring offense as St. Edmund grabbed a 54-39 non-district win over the Mamou Lady Demons. St. Edmund opened with a 12-7 first quarter lead, aided by six points by Savannah DeVillier and a bucket each from Rebecca Benoit, Mary Beth Lafleur and Tanzy Miller. B.

Bobcats fall in Northwest's Holiday tourney

PRAIRIE RONDE – Ville Platte exploded for 36 points in the third period to break open a close game as the Bulldogs rolled to a 80-61 win over the Eunice Bobcats in Northwest High’s Holiday tournament.

Lady Jays grab win over VC

ABBEVILLE – It was a low-scoring game that worked in the Lady Jays’ favor as St. Edmund earned a 39-32 road win over Vermilion Catholic. With the win, St. Ed’s (5-7) broke a three-game losing streak and will entertain Mamou (5-8) on Monday.
