Birth Announcements

Eva Smith Dr. Jason M. and Veronica Lyn LeBleu Smith of Eunice announce the birth of their daughter, Eva Lee Smith, born at Opelousas General Hospital on Feb. 6 weighing 8 pounds and 12 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Brent and Norma LeBleu of Basile.

Class Act Student of the Week

This week’s Student of the Week is Cheyenne Fontenot, a senior at Eunice High School. Her parents are Angie Murillo and Kent Fontenot. If you had to live in another part of the world, where would you want to live and why? I am exactly where I want to be, home, as long as I am with family.

Benoit at Liberty Saturday

The “Rendez-vous des Cajuns” Cajun Music Radio & TV show Saturday at the Liberty Center at 6 p.m. will have a performance by Kenneth Benoit & The Gravel Road Band. Admission is $5 at the door. Show starts at 6 p.m. The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. Starting at 10 a.m.

The origins of Mardi Gras

Did you know? On Mardi Gras and the period leading up to it, families would feast on all the foods they would give up during Lent. Pancakes were popular items during this time because they are made from eggs, fats and milk.

Eunice Junior High introduces its History Club members

Eunice Junior High School’s History Club is sponsored by Kathy Bollich and Brittany Ardoin. Bollich teaches all eighth-grade students and Ardoin teaches all seventh-grade students at the junior high campus.

Eunice Jr. High represented at Math Competition

Eunice Junior High School sent two math competition teams to the Opelousas Junior High School’s competition on Saturday, Feb. 9. The seventh-grade team led by. Tiffany Pedigo placed first in the team competition and the eighth-grade team led by Jackie Oberste placed third.
