Don’t mistake a shamrock for a clover

St. Patrick’s Day celebration is Sunday. Did you know? All shamrocks are clovers, but not all clovers are shamrocks. The home and garden resource The Spruce indicates that the term “shamrock” comes from the Gaelic word seamrog, meaning “little clover.

Ash Wednesday fish dinners at St. Mathilda

The Knights and Ladies Auxiliary of St. Peter Claver at St. Mathilda Church held Ash Wednesday Fish Dinner plate lunches from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. with pickup at the Bishop Ceaser Center. A donation of $8 included a lunch of fish courbouillon, fried fillet fish, sweet peas and a dessert.

St. Edmund students compete at Science Fair

St. Edmund High School students recently competed at the Regional Science Fair in Lafayette. All students advanced to state.

St. Ed students named winners at VFW event

St. Edmund Catholic School students participated in the VFW Post 8971 annual essay contest. The theme for the essay was “How I Honor Veterans,” for three fifth-grade students.

The annual St. Landry COA Mardi Gras Dance

The annual St. Landry COA Mardi Gras Dance was held Monday afternoon at the Northwest Community Center. Seniors danced to live entertainment by Big J. & The Zydeco Dog Pound and enjoyed refreshments and gumbo.
