Annual Council on Aging Mardi Gras dance

The St. Landry Parish Council on Aging annual Mardi Gras dance was held Monday afternoon at the Northwest Community Center. Many seniors had the opportunity to dance to live Cajun, Zydeco music provided by Big J & the Zydeco Dog Pound. Seniors ate gumbo, King Cake and drinks, provided by the COA.

A Mardi Gras OLLI LSUE group

An LSUE OLLI French Table on Friday was enjoyed by a group of Mardi Gras people. They were, from left, Gerald Fontenot, Etheline Miller, Margaret Ardoin, Carrol Ardoin, Ching Wasmuth, Sheila Landreneau, Pat Landreneau and Matt Fudge. The group enjoyed boudin, cracklins and king cake.

Birth Announcements

Lillian Johnson Rhett Johnson and Jessica Babineaux of Eunice announce the birth of their daughter, Lillian Nicole Johnson, born at Acadian Medical Center on Feb. 17 weighing 8 pounds and 4.8 ounces.

Creating and crafting Mardi Gras items for 40 years

Barbara Butcher of Eunice is one of those who breathes, and sleeps Mardi Gras year round. Butcher will start planning next year’s Mardi Gras the day after present year Mardi Gras. “I’m always looking to create something new and different,” she said.

Students of the Year at St. Francis

Students of the Year at St. Francis School were chosen. Grace Simon is Eighth Grade Student of the Year, and Emily Semar was named Fifth Grade Student of the Year. Simon is the daughter of Brandon and Kysha Simon and Semar is the daughter of Mark and Summer Semar.
