By Mary Lagroue Intern As the caretaker of his grandfather’s antique pistol and police baton, Claude Ledet has preserved a piece of Abbeville history. Ledet, who was raised in Abbeville, inherited the pistol and baton from his parents.

State Parks adjust pool schedules for end of summer

The Louisiana Office of State Parks is adjusting the swimming pool schedules for the end of summer, to ensure that certified lifeguards are present during pool operating hours. All pools will close for the season after Labor Day. Bayou Segnette State Park (Westwego) Beginning Monday, Aug.

A facelift in the works

Circle of Excellence Award

School safety enforced

By Myra Miller Lifestyles All Eunice schools, including St. Edmund, will start first day of classes Wednesday. With the start of school, there will be school buses, more car traffic, and some school children walking early in the morning hours and after school hours.

Rotary golf tourney set for Aug. 12 The Eunice Rotary Club will hold a golf tournament Aug. 12 at Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino in Kinder. The cost is $100 per player or $400 a team. All proceeds goes to the Eunice Community Health Center. Registration and payment deadline is Aug. 10.

Parents Reachout host Back to School The Parents Reachout Club will host its annual Back To School Funday on Saturday at the Southeast Neighborhood Center in Eunice from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be school back packs with supplies, giveaways, food and games, face painting, fun jumps, etc.
