Marriages The following people obtained marriage licenses from the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Offic. Thursday, June 26 Damaya Ashlyn Variste, of Greensburg, and Kadejah Renee Bocard, of Opelousas. Friday, June. 27 Travis Clay Matthews of Zachary and Billie Clare Myers, of Church Point.

LSUE professor’s artwork featured in Lafayette exhibition

LSU Eunice Assistant Professor of Fine Arts Symantha Jones is among the featured artists in the Acadiana Center for the Arts’ (AcA) annual summer group exhibition, Our Point in Space, now on display in the Main Gallery through Aug. 16.

Audit reports parish expenses exceeded revenues

The St. Landry Parish Council’s Administrative-Finance Committee approved an audit for the 2024 fiscal year at its meeting on Wednesday in Opeloussas. Steve Moosa, CPA of Darnall, Sikes and Frederick, presented the audit to the committee.

Tri-Parish workforce increases, jobless rates up

The Tri-Parish workforce totaled 68,223 in May, and increase of 823 over the May 2024 count, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The Tri-Parish unemployment rates in May were up compared to those of May 2024.

Green energy accords signed

Agreements with green energy providers were approved in a special St. Landry Parish Energy Board meeting on June 25 in Opelousas. The Energy Board is comprised of Parish Council members. Similar agreements were approved in Acadia Parish last week and on Monday.

Fourth of July fireworks show returns to Rec Complex

As Kenneth Peart, former mayor and expert pyrotechnist, says every year, “It will be bigger and better!” Peart is talking about the Fourth of July fireworks to begin at 9 p.m. Friday at the Recreational Complex on Sittig Road.

Conceal carry permit class set for July 12 The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a one-day concealed carry permit training class beginning at 7:30 a.m. July 12 at 211 W. Park Ave. in Eunice. The course is $100 and $80 for a spouse or renewal.

Vet Fest at LSUE

The LSUE Office of Veteran Affairs held a Vet Fest from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dr. Anthony Mumphrey Center on LSUE campus. There were about 40 local resource-vendors on hand that provided veterans with important and valuable assistance, and resources.
