Hardscaping sets the stage for year-round outdoor living

You’ve heard of landscaping. How about hardscaping? Hardscapes are the manmade features that bring form and function to our landscapes, providing a contrast to living elements such as plants, trees and turf — otherwise known as softscapes.

Cleco speaker touts company’s impact

Cleco is not just an electrical power provider, Cleco provides community services and believes in giving back to the community, according to Colie Plaster, a 9-month Cleco communications representative, who spoke Wednesday at the Eunice Rotary Club meeting.

Parish sales tax collections drop

Total St. Landry Parish sales tax collections were down 1.9% compared to last year as 2025 reached the halfway point, according statistics released Tuesday by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division.

Health center funding celebrated

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard announced $1.5 million in state funding for the Eunice Community Health Center on Thursday. The ceremony held at the clinic entrance on Moosa Boulevard included city and parish elected officials and community members.

Creole-speaking Texan returns to zydeco jam

Zydeco and Creole accordion master Randall Jackson returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas. Jackson is the 2014 winner of the Texas Big Squeeze Accordion Contest in the zydeco category.

St. Landry Parish schools LEAP scores improve in math, science

The St. Landry Parish LEAP scores in math and science improved in the 2025 tests compared to scores in 2024. The Louisiana Department of Education released the LEAP scores on July 3 showing statewide students improved in math scores while English results were unchanged from 2024.
