Winter flower outdoor planters brighten gloomy days

While winter often brings a temporary halt to many gardens, outdoor planters with beautiful winter flowers can brighten up any gloomy day. A mixture of texture, color, and height is the best way to create a striking planter. There are many brightly colored winter flowers that do well in planters.

Ardoin leads the next Zydeco Capital Jam at tourist center

Accordion master Mark Ardoin leads the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. Since February 2019, the jam has welcomed seasoned zydeco musicians and newcomers to play in St.

Christmas Parade of Lights today

The Eunice Christmas Parade of Lights starts at 6 p.m. with 67 entries and 10 bands on the schedule. The parade, sponsored by the Eunice Chamber of Commerce, is a highlight of the Christmas season and draws hundreds of viewers to the city.

Summit confronts state’s litter problem

Some $91 million is spent cleaning up litter in Louisiana every year, according to Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, who highlighted a eight-parish regional summit on litter Monday at LSUE.

City seeks state grant to enlarge dog pound

The City of Eunice is seeking a $50,000 grant to expand the dog pound. The Board of Aldermen approved the application for the Louisiana Government Assistance Program grant at its Tuesday meeting. Mayor Scott Fontenot said, “A couple years ago, we built a new facility with the same grant.

Eunice Food Bank Food Drive collections down from last year

The annual Eunice Food Bank Food Drive was held Tuesday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. at 2101 West Ash. There was 3.5 tons collected of food according to Mary Ann Guillory, director at the food bank, and about 45 volunteers on hand throughout the day.

Constitutional amendments approved

St. Landry Parish voters nearly mirrored the state vote in Saturday’s election in passing four constitutional amendments. Turnout, as predicted, was low at 10.8% in state voting and 5.2% in St. Landry Parish.

Molly Rowe takes the helm at Hilliard Art Museum
