Ordinance to guide parish boards

Serving on a parish board is more than attending meetings and voting. It also requires following laws governing how meetings are to be conducted and keeping records. The St. Landry Parish Council is developing an ordinance setting up guidelines for the boards and their members.

Tri-Parish workforce declines from a year ago

The Tri-Parish workforce dropped 2% in November compared to the November 2024 count according to statistics released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The workforce in November totaled 66,544, down 1,327 from 67,871 in November 2024.

DOTD begins $3.3M Creswell Lane project in Opelousas

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development began a $3.3 million project that will include a 2.59-mile section of La. 31 from La. 182 to La. 742, as well as the adjacent section of La. 182 from La. 31 to E. Jefferson St. on Wednesday.

Acadia Parish assessor begins 4th term

CROWLEY — Acadia Parish Assessor James J. “Jimbo” Petitjean was sworn in for his fourth term of office during ceremonies on Dec. 30, 2024. The Oath of Office was administered by Judge James M. Cunningham, Retired.   “What an honor for our office and staff,” Petitjean said.

For the first time since 2023, Geno Delafose leads the monthly Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. Admission is free to the jam, open to musicians of all skill levels and fans.

Sheriff office host Concealed Carry Permit class is set for Jan. 18. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a one-day concealed carry permit training and Louisiana law update class beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 211 West Park in Eunice.
