Water district plans upgrades with nearly $1M in state funding

The Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System, a water district nestled between Opelousas, Church Point and Lawtell, has $940,000 in state funding for upgrades.

Without discussion at Tuesday’s meeting, the Eunice Board of Aldermen approved the issuance of up to $12 million in revenue bonds. After the meeting, in a text message, Mayor Scott Fontenot explained, “The two current plants will be demolished and replaced at the current site.

Early voting begins Oct. 18 Early voting for the Nov. 5 Presidential Election will be held from Oct. 18 to 29 with the exception of Sundays, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Due to ongoing construction in the courthouse in Opelousas, early voting in Opelousas will take place at the Delta Grand Theater.

Zydeco and Creole accordion master Randall Jackson returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 12 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas. Jackson is the 2014 winner of the Texas Big Squeeze Accordion Contest in the zydeco category.

LSU Eunice’s Braneshea Moore, an assistant professor of nursing, has been named the 2024 Elsevier Educator of the Year by the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN). Moore officially receives the honor at the OADN Convention in Tampa, Florida, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
