Water district plans upgrades with nearly $1M in state funding

The Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System, a water district nestled between Opelousas, Church Point and Lawtell, has $940,000 in state funding for upgrades.

Update: Fire is out, fire was centered on bridge and tank car

The following is from St. Landry Parish Government FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 10/10/24 Eunice, LA – At approximately 2:30 PM today, a train fire was reported near the North St. Mary railroad crossing in Eunice.

Women’s Day of Reflection set Nov. 16 There will be a Day of Reflection with a theme of “Now Faith” at St. Ann’s Catholic Church Hall in Mallet from 8:30 a.m. until noon Saturday, Nov. 16 with lots of praise and worship and guest testimonial speakers. All women are invited to attend.

Sewer system bond approved

Without discussion at Tuesday’s meeting, the Eunice Board of Aldermen approved the issuance of up to $12 million in revenue bonds. After the meeting, in a text message, Mayor Scott Fontenot explained, “The two current plants will be demolished and replaced at the current site.

Early voting begins Oct. 18 Early voting for the Nov. 5 Presidential Election will be held from Oct. 18 to 29 with the exception of Sundays, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Due to ongoing construction in the courthouse in Opelousas, early voting in Opelousas will take place at the Delta Grand Theater.

LSUE’S Braneshea Moore wins national nursing educator award

LSU Eunice’s Braneshea Moore, an assistant professor of nursing, has been named the 2024 Elsevier Educator of the Year by the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN). Moore officially receives the honor at the OADN Convention in Tampa, Florida, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
