An amendment to the 2022 – 2023 city budget will give all elected officials in Rayne a pay boost.

4 condemnations approved

Four condemnations were approved by the Eunice Board of Aldermen at their Tuesday meeting.
Three other properties are on their way for Show Cause hearings next month. The Show Cause is to decide on condemnation.

Threats raise school safety concerns

After a series of bomb threats at parish high schools, a St. Landry Parish School Board committee voted to forward the issue to its Executive Committee meeting.

Fontenot earns district honor

Mitch Fontenot, principal at Eunice High School, is named the 2022-2023 District High School Principal of the Year.

Mayor Scott Fontenot has granted full-time, non-civil servant employees of the City of Eunice, Dec. 23 off for the Christmas holiday.

Christmas Triad party held

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office held its annual Triad Christmas party for senior citizens at the Yambilee in Opelousas on Dec. 7.

Christmas parade is today

The Eunice Chamber of Commerce will present its annual Christmas Parade of Lights beginning at 6 p.m. today.
The parade will begin on North 2nd Street, will continue on 2nd, and Park Avenue, and will end near S. 9th Street.

Confederate monument stands fast

Despite the St. Landry Parish Council voting 9-3 in April to move a monument to Confederate soldiers off the Courthouse grounds, the 102-year-old structure remains in place.

Schools closing due to weather

The St Landry Parish public schools will close Wednesday due to anticipated severe weather.
Also closing is the LSUE campus.
LSUE and the parish campuses are to reopen on Thursday.
